Or maybe you don't? I'm not sure if this Crocosmia/Montbretia is indeed 'Lucifer' or another cultivar. Whatever it may be, I'm grateful to a generous gardener named Diane who was moving to Wimberley and offered on Craigslist to let fellow gardeners dig plants from her West University garden. I think of her every summer when these flaming blooms appear in my garden. I hope she's enjoying life in the Hill Country as much as I'm enjoying these handsome devils.

Those are red.
I'm red with envy! I tried crosomias last year. No luck. I'm going to explore them more, since that is one eye-whopper.
Love them! You have so many pretty wildflowers!! Is that a clasping coneflower next to it?
Carol, which are red? Mine or Lucifer, LOL? Weather differences, especially temperature, may account for color differences.
Linda, I've got bulbs for these that I dug last year. E-mail me your address and I'll mail you some. They might even come up this year.
MT, that's some kind of Rudbeckia but don't ask me which one. I know I've bought several named varieties, as well as species, over the years. I think there's some cross-breeding going on! I really like the ones with red markings in the center.
OK, now I understand Carol's comment: she tells me she meant they are RED!!! :-)
