A Friday Evening Rant ...

Even drought-tolerant plants like Salvia leucantha suffer from the lack of regular moisture.
It has now been 31 days since it last rained on my corner of Katy.  Combined with September's high temperatures, the lack of rain makes for some seriously stressed plants.  Need I say that it also makes for a seriously stressed gardener?  I could spend all day, every day, watering.  I'm doing what I can, when I can, but I would certainly appreciate some help from Mother Nature.

Forecasters give us a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I have no faith in their predictions, and even when they do hit the mark, it behooves me to remember the remarkable rain-repelling properties of my corner.  Yet another bummer ... the sight of dessicated earthworm carcasses on my flagstones and in the streets.  The poor creatures crawl out of the ground looking for a bit of moisture and that's all she wrote.   Depressing, aren't I?  If it weren't for the mostly delightful temperatures and the lack of humidity, I'd be even more glum.

My sentiments exactly! I was ranting today, too. As I planted new plants, the ground was bone dry. Sometimes it just seems like we can't win: we either get floods or no rain and these windy, dry days. Still, your garden looks superb!

We haven't had real rain in almost two months~There is no way I can duplicate Mother Nature and rain....I do try, but then I feel guilty using so much water. I agree with Linda, your garden looks wonderful. gail

You Rant On!!! It is hard on the Gardener when there isn't rain and you want to do the right thing and conserve when you can. I feel really bad for those worms. I love my worms and what they do. Goodness that's horrible. Hang in there and your Gardens still have alot of life. I can't say that here :)

Linda & Gail, I'm glad y'all think the garden looks good. It's a good reminder that I need to look for the beauty in it even during trying times!

Hang in there. We went without rain for a long dry time, now it is finally coming regularly with the timely advent of fall. Our worms are finally basking rather than baking. The garden looks pretty darn good.
Sigh, same thing here. I keep trying to look on the bright side - cooler temps and lack of humidity. But we can never duplicate the many benefits of rain to our garden, can we.

Thanks, Peoknee, GWGT & Jean. Still no rain 2 weeks later. SIGH.
