Slim Pickens without Minnie Pearls This Bloom Day

To fully understand just the significance of what you are about to see, may I ask you to take a trip back in time with me? Let's go back to February 2009. What a beautiful day that was in my gardens ... there was so much in bloom that I had to create a photo collage to show them all.

Not so today.  The following photographs represent the sum total of what's blooming on my corner of Katy.

Alyssum, Moss Pink Verbena, Violas, Leucojum, and Toadflax are dotted about the back garden.
One Bluebonnet has bravely soldiered on despite the weather.
Only the white Violas are blooming today: the white Dianthus and Cyclamen are taking a break.
One stem of 'Homestead Purple' Verbena is blooming.
I'll add more Corsican Violets next fall.

That's it. The Head Gardener is venting her frustration by ripping mushy succulents out of pots and composting them, muttering all the while. I'm steering clear of her today!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day is the brainchild of the inimitable Carol of May Dreams Gardens. Visit her blog to see who else has posted about what's blooming in their gardens and to leave a link for others to find your post.

Your corner is still blooming much better than my corner. All I have blooming outside is SNOW, albeit pretty snow. Good to see real flowers in real gardens. Happy GBBD.

Hi Cindy - Nice to have a few little remnants - especially that sweet bluebonnet - though I know it's hard to be happy in light of last year. My hope in CT is that I can see bare ground in a month or so!

What you do have is wonderful, Cindy! Just the thought of the fragrance of Alyssum makes my nose tingle! :-)

It looks pretty good to me, Cindy! You have green leaves as well as flowers.
Our recent cold snap with harsh winds killed the blooming alyssum and even some bluebonnets.
But the Violas made it for both of us- Happy GBBD!

Cindy, you win my vote for the best post title I've seen in a long time:) I know this must seem a sad display to you compared to past years, but I'm enjoying all your blooms, especially the lovely bluebonnet. And I do envy your 'Homestead Purple' verbena--I have to replant them every year because they are annuals in my garden. The snow is gradually melting here, but it will take awhile for my garden to re-appear under those 4-foot drifts.

Last February was more colorful here, too. I have high hopes for a glorious spring, and soon. Happy Bloom Day.
I'm so sorry Cindy...at least as a long time gardener you know this too shall pass. I hope you get to have some fun replacing things soon!

Most of what you've got left would be happy in my garden in May or June. The verbena is an annual for me as well. But compared to what you could have, well, I am sorry for your loss.

I did take a look at you 2009 post and was amazed at all your colorful flowers..just gorgeous! Since I don't know the history of your garden, I'm assuming you lost plants to a freeze? You do have my sympathy. It is so hard to lose plants that you have nurtured. But nature is pretty amazing and you will have blooms again. I love those blue bonnets!

My yard is definitely frost burned. I watered to give it some hope with these warm days. Hope we really are done with cold temps!

Like the combination of the white violas and cyclamen foliage. Very eye-catching.

Oh dear, what a difference. But what you have is lovely, I especially like the photo of the Bluebonnet.
I can't believe all your blooms! And a bluebonnet? It got so cold here I am just wishing some of the bonnets survived! Not bad at all for a February!

Is it bluebonnet season? Even one is enough to give my heart joy.

Well it may be skimpy, but it's still pretty. :-)
