The HG and I have been in something of a plant buying frenzy, which is followed by even more frenzied efforts to get plants into the ground and settled before summer truly arrives. We could spend all day every day outside and still not be done. It's hot enough that we usually call it quits between 1 and 2 pm.
We're feeling not only the time constraints imposed by Mother Nature but those imposed by our upcoming absence. A week from today we'll be in the mountains of North Carolina for the 2012 Garden Bloggers' Fling!
We know we'll come home to find a few casualties but plants are replaceable ... the friendships and experiences we'll share with fellow garden bloggers are anything but!

Wit's End is looking good. I love the paths, they set the borders off so beautifully. Cindy, you're right, I have been stressing about the garden and leaving it way too much. Can't wait to see you! xogail
Wit's End is looking mighty fine, Cindy. I am so looking forward to seeing you again, for the fifth fling!
So true about the importance of friendship. I'm going to give you a big hug when I see you. And your garden looks fabulous!
The garden is gorgeous - and I can't wait to see you in a week! I know what you mean by planting as fast as you can! Same here. Had some great rain since Saturday...you?
Cindy, your garden looks lovely! I hope you have a fabulous time at The Fling. Please take and post a ton of pictures. I’ll be waiting to hear all about it!
Looking forward to seeing you again. I'm solving my abandoned gardening issues by leaving my Head Gardener at home.
Well stated, Cindy. Should be a good time.
Love, love, love the paths. I've also decided not to worry too much about watering while I'm gone. My street address is allowed to do our weekly irrigation on Sunday, but I'll be chillin' in NC with my garden blogger buddies, so...que sera, sera.
I did gamble and plant the new stuff about two weeks ahead of our traditional last frost date, in anticipation of having it all established by the Fling date. Even so, you just never know what's going to happen. But that's why we are intrigued by the leap of faith that is gardening, no?
Cindy, it's looking so beautiful. I would love to sit with you and gaze at the flowers.~~Dee
I guess I have been feeling anxious about everything that won't get done when I'm gone; not just the gardening but everything else. Seems like whenever I come back from a trip, it hits me like a ton of bricks.
Your garden looks great! I have the opposite problem that you do, here it doesn't get really warm enough to go outside until about 1 p.m. If I go out before that I have to wear a sweatshirt, and my hands sometimes go numb. We are looking at temps in the 70s this weekend, and everyone will be complaining about the heat...
Have a blast at the Fling!
Wit's End looks lovely now, and I just adore your armadillo! I can't wait for Asheville and to hang out with you again.
I understand exactly how you feel, Cindy, about time constraints. But, oh, how beautiful your garden looks! Looking forward to seeing you again next week!
I can see you meandering along those paths...just kidding as I see you bending and pulling weeds, fluffing and buffing and dragging a hose around. I do hope you wander though. Maybe with coffee in the a.m. and a glass of wine or a margarita in the p.m.
Cindy,
Your garden looks wonderful and I hope that you'll have a few rain showers while you're gone.
And, I hope we'll have seasonable (that is, not too warm weather) for all of you in Asheville for the Fling!
Lisa
The pathways in your grass-less backyard are a dream. My brother and his family bought a home in Katy last year when the drought was so bad. There's a remarkable difference in the health of his fruit trees this year and his garden looks great. Here's wishing that you get some rain on your garden while you're away on your trip.
Glad you are doing ok and happy to see the garden is too. Have a great trip. I hope to go one year. Hugs Carol
It's been a pleasure meeting you Cindy. I sure your beautiful garden suffers no stresses while you are here in Asheville.
Your gardens look lovely! Was great meeting you today and I just love your outlook on the heat and possible loss of some plants...
I hope you came home to a garden not stressed from the heat and lack of water. It all looks so pretty.
