Through the Garden Gate: Monday, April 6th

Here it is Monday again, and time to take a look Through the Garden Gate. Something new this week: I present Video Episode 1 of TTGG, the riveting saga of a garden in south Central Texas.



Dang, after listening to this, I certainly do sigh a lot! Blame it on the wind ... my friend Mimi in Vermont tells me that Frank Ronan, writing in Gardens Illustrated, says the wind affects you differently and makes it impossible to work outside, not because it's cold or blows things away, but because it's annoying by its ever-presence. I've been in a funky mood lately when it comes to working in the garden and I think maybe that's why.

For those wondering about the rock festival on MCOK this weekend, here's an update. The courtyard, like most such renovation projects, has turned out to be more costly and labor-intensive than expected/planned. After watching my two talented and industrious stonemasons, Isidro and Blas, working so hard on this project, I am very happy that the Executive Producer and I didn't attempt to do it ourselves! Even with the help of friends, it would have been too much to handle. Isidro and Blas are here again today and hope to finish up this evening. I love how it looks thus far. As for the retaining wall out front, I haven't gotten to that yet. The wind, folks, the wind ...

Oh, I just love those Poppies, wow! The Larkspur & Delphiniums provide such a great counterpoint to them. Thanks for the tour. The garden looks great.

I can't tell you how much I loved walking through your garden...even with the wind. It is amazing! What a great idea with the video. I felt like I was really there, ready to sit in that chair and have a cup of coffee!

Thank you for the tour of your garden. It looks great. Lots of color and variety. It is amazing how much more growth you have than we do in North Texas. We are expecting temps in the upper 20s tonight. Very unusual for this time of year.

Cindy, It's a lush and beautiful garden, wonderfully sunny and inviting. Love the poppies...as do Dee and MMD! ...I have a similar empty wall that would look oh so better with something on it! But what...it can't be just any old thing! Thank you for the tour...I had a lovely time. gail

Wow, I absolutely cannot believe how many things you have blooming right now! Seeing everything via video is such a nice way to get the lay of the land. Your garden looks really beautiful. I hear you about the wind. I am most tired of it!!

Hi Cindy, that was so enjoyable to hear your voice giving us the garden tour. What a happy planting, I love the serendipity of the seedlings of the larkspur, poppies, etc. Stipa is just unbeatable for movement in the wind, ever present or not. The roses are lovely, and the pond, and the paths. I look forward to seeing the stonework too. You are wise to let the pros handle that job.

Cindy, I commented before I'd watched the video. I had to come back and tell you how much I enjoyed the tour. It was like walking through the garden with you, and everything looks absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks, y'all! It's been a lovely spring here thus far. Like so many parts of the country, we've had cooler temps than usual. I think the plants are as happy about that as I am ... summer will come all too soon for us!

Cindy, what a video! You give me lots to aspire to, with your lush garden. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, but hopefully tomorrow evening I'll get some photos for my look through the garden gate for Monday. I love the idea of taking a photo of the same scene through the year to see how it progresses and wanes. Fun! Great ideas you have.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that d..ned wind! What's up with that, anyway? Not normal for us to have it so prolonged for so long. We seemed to have died down a bit the past few days, I hope it's moved on. My friends that live in Lubbock are about to blow away this year - they have had sustained winds of 50 mph for a week now! I would just have to pack up and leave, I think.
